Very popular with locals, the Coolangatta Sands Hotel is also a great option for visitors seeking reasonably-priced pub food or just a few drinks.
There are two bars: the Public Bar has a pool table, and as you might expect there are flat screen televisions that are usually tuned to sporting events. There are also TAB facilities if you want to bet.
The Lounge Bar was recently renovated and renamed The Sand Bar. It’s bright, open and has a slightly retro look, although it’s also kind of modern looking. Hard to describe, take a look at the photo above.
The Sand Bar is a bit more relaxed than the Public Bar, and features a DJ on Friday and Saturday evenings: the music selection is generally of the “cool” type – soul, funk, beats and the like. There is also live music on in the afternoon on Sundays: the “Sunday Sessions”.
Lunch is available between 11.30am and 2.30pm, dinner between 5.30pm and 8.30pm, seven days a week. The selection is the usual pub fare: fish & chips, steak, parmigiana, nachos plus some decent pizza. There are some vegetarian-friendly dishes too.
Meals are priced pretty reasonably for the Gold Coast, with mains at around $20 and under. For the money, the quality is pretty good. There are also some great specials, like the Sunday Roast, Schnitzel Tuesdays and Steak Wednesdays.
Good value pub meals in a popular local venue: great for a bite to eat or a few drinks and some music.
