If you want to stay in Coolangatta, there are far better choices – location-wise – than the Coolangatta YHA.
It is very well located for the Gold Coast Airport though, so if you are more interested in being next to the airport than actually staying in Coolangatta, then maybe it’s for you.
It’s not far from the beach, but you need to cross the Gold Coast Highway to reach it. Airport noise? Check. Traffic noise? Check.
As you would expect, this is hostel accommodation so there are dorms with six or eight beds, plus some very basic doubles/twin rooms and singles. There are also some family rooms. The standard is reasonable: fairly well maintained but nothing special, and neither cramped nor particularly big.
The hostel facilities are decent. The kitchen has a walk-in fridge, a chest freezer, stove top cookers and microwaves: not bad. There are also some vending machines if you can’t be bothered to cook. There are also two coin operated washing machines and dryers.
There is a swimming pool, barbecue area, table tennis and basketball, board games and a pool table. Lockers are available, as is the internet. Surfboards and bicycles are available for rent. There is a free shuttle bus that runs between the hostel and Coolangatta several times a day.
Coolangatta YHA is the place to stay when you want hostel accommodation that isn’t actually in Coolangatta. It’s not a bad place, but misleading people from out of town (and overseas) as to it’s location isn’t cool and loses it points in our book. We think you’d be better off at Komune Resort.
Coolangatta YHA is located at 230 Coolangatta Road in Bilinga. Telephone (07) 5536 7644.
