Islander Backpackers Resort is part of the Islander Resort Hotel complex, so if you choose to stay here you get to use the hotel’s facilities – pool, heated spa, sauna, tennis & squash courts, BBQ area etc – for free. That’s quite a plus.
The location is central and is actually really good, with just about everything including the beach, shops and nightlife within easy walking distance. Another plus
There are some basic twin & double rooms that have a private balcony, bathroom and TV, and if you are after shared accommodation there are dorms that have between four and six beds. The rooms can get a bit hot, and could do with better ventilation in some cases.
The downside to Islander Backpackers Resort being part of the hotel complex is that it doesn’t have much of a backpackers atmosphere, even though it does have a common area. If you are travelling by yourself and want to stay somewhere where you can socialize with other travellers, then this may not be your best option.
If that doesn’t bother you, the location is great (it’s near the transit centre too) and the resort/hotel facilities are better than the average backpacker place. You need to be 18 or older to stay here, and also need to have a Nomads, YHA or VIP hostel card.
Not the best option if you are looking to meet and hang out with other backpackers as the atmosphere is a bit lacking. But if you don’t care about that, the location and resort facilities are very good at this price point.
