Having only opened in 2010, Komune Resort is a recent addition to your accommodation options in Coolangatta.
It’s very stylish, has a great location and features backpacker rooms, contemporary apartments and the level nine penthouse.
We really like this place, but please be aware that one of it’s features is the Beach Club which has DJs playing on Friday and Saturday nights and on Sundays, plus the occasional fashion show.
Although the music moves behind soundproof doors at midnight, it means that the resort is better suited to younger visitors who will view this as a plus, not a minus. If you are only staying Monday to Thursday it shouldn’t affect you as much (except for special events like New Years Eve etc).
Komune Share: self contained apartments for international backpackers with four, six or eight beds. A step up in quality from that of many backpacker places, this is a way better option than the Coolangatta YHA. There is lockable storage in the rooms and a continental breakfast is included.
Komune Girls: a whole floor that – you guessed it – only allows female guests. It has two apartments that each sleep up to eight females, and being on level eight means some fantastic views.
Komune Apartments: very nice non-smoking one and two bedroom apartments – light, bright and very modern. All are air-conditioned, have balconies, fans and cable television. Those with two bedrooms also have a kitchen, the ones with one bedroom have a bar fridge and coffee-making facilities.
Komune Luxury: taking up the entire ninth floor, this spacious penthouse offers a taste of luxury and amazing 360 degree views. Sleeps up to eight with a pull down king size bed in the master bedroom and three double day beds in the lounge area. Features include a Bose Surround Sound System and an eight-person spa!
The pool area, or rather the “Komune Beach Club” is arguably the resort’s greatest feature. Lounge around and relax during the day, and enjoy the music and party atmosphere on Friday and Saturday nights until 12am, and on Sunday from the afternoon onwards until 12am.
There are poolside barbeques for you to use, and Wi-Fi is free in public areas (although there is a fee for it in rooms/apartments/penthouse). There is also the beachfront silent cinema that utilizes noise cancelling headphone technology for it’s sound.
As you can probably tell, we are big fans of Komune. Whether you are looking for low budget share accommodation, comfortable apartments or a luxurious penthouse, it’s hard to beat. Pricing is very reasonable indeed.
Due to the Beach Club though, it’s probably best avoided by families with small children or anyone who is put off by the music: it’s very much aimed at the younger crowd. As mentioned above, the music is generally more of an issue at weekends and on some public holidays.
