If you would rather avoid the noise and crowds of Surfers Paradise and (to a lesser degree) Broadbeach, but still want a good selection of high quality accommodation, dining and entertainment options, Main Beach may be just the place.
It does tend to cater more towards the upper-mid end and high-end of the market though, so if you are visiting the Gold Coast on a very low budget, you may find the cost a little prohibitive.
Main Beach Attractions
The beach itself is beautiful and far less crowded than those of Surfers and Broady to the south. It’s the perfect place to relax after a nice breakfast or lunch, and you can swim safely between the flags. It’s also a great place to try some water sports: surfing, fishing, jet-skiing, parasailing and more can all be enjoyed here.
The famous Tedder Avenue is full of excellent restaurants, bars and cafes, as well as some great shops and boutiques. It’s known for some of the best dining on the Gold Coast, and while it is more upmarket than elsewhere it still retains a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. We have included a selection of places you might like to try below.

Another place to enjoy some eating, drinking and shopping is Marina Mirage. Originally opened in the late eighties, it was upgraded with a massive $40 million redevelopment in 2009 and is probably the premier waterfront dining and retail destinations in the state.
Marina Mirage is home to stores like Hermes, Calvin Klein & Guess, and you may even be able to spot the occasional international celebrity like Beyoncé doing some shopping. Some of the best dining in Main Beach can be found here too: here are a few suggestions.
Saks Restaurant & Bar: shop 26, Ground Floor (07) 5591 2755
Sunset Restaurant & Bar: shop 12, Ground Floor (07) 5528 2622

You might also like to try the Southport Surf Life Saving Club (it’s actually in Main Beach) on Macarthur Parade for a great meal that won’t break the bank. The telephone number for the restaurant & bar is (07) 5665 3900.
Main Beach Accommodation
What can you say about the Palazzo Versace? Stunning. Luxurious. Expensive. Different, perhaps even a little over the top. But if the price isn’t an issue, what better place is there to base yourself? As you would expect, the accommodation and service are first class.
Sea World Resort
If you are a family travelling with kids, you may want to consider the Sea World Resort. It’s clean, comfortable and provides good value – especially when you can enjoy entry to the Sea World Theme Park for free as a resort guest. Your kids will definitely thank you for it!
Xanadu Main Beach Resort
Xanadu is popular due to it’s combination of quality, comfortable accommodation, great location and it’s reasonable pricing. The beach and Tedder Avenue are just a short walk away, and Surfers Paradise can be reached in 20 minutes or so by foot. Very good resort facilities too.
Oscar on Main
For good quality accommodation in a convenient location and at a reasonable rate, you should consider staying at Oscar on Main. It’s apartments are in a contemporary style, and the landscaped gardens are charming. Facilities include an indoor & outdoor pool, spa and tennis court.
Meriton on Main Beach
One of the more affordable options in Main Beach, the Meriton has a selection of apartments with either one, two or three bedrooms. Of course, at this price you don’t get the flashiest accommodation in town but it’s a comfortable place to stay in a good location.
Surfers Paradise YHA
Low budget dorm rooms and basic twins/doubles with no air conditioning. Despite the name of the place, it’s actually here in Main Beach which is probably not the best area for anyone travelling on a very low budget. A nice location but consider what you are looking for before you make a booking.
