What better way is there to see the Gold Coast in all it’s glory than by taking a scenic helicopter tour?
Firstly, it’s not that expensive with short five minute flights starting at $60 to $70 per adult, and averaging around $50 p.p. per five minutes for longer tours. Even five minutes up in the air is an amazing experience, and plenty of time to take in the sights.
There is in most cases a two person minimum (unless you want to charter a helicopter for yourself), but if you are travelling solo most companies will try to match you up with another traveller whenever possible – just ask. Most helicopters fit two or three passengers plus pilot, larger groups will be able to find one that fits up to six passengers.
There are actually quite a varied range of flight options available, and custom tours can often be arranged. Depending on the length of your flight – and where it starts from – you may get a birds-eye-view of the Surfers Paradise skyline, South Stradbroke Island, Burleigh Heads, Coolangatta & Point Danger, Currumbin Valley, the Tweed Valley and the Gold Coast Hinterland.
There are tour operators operating out of the airport, and you can also start your flight from various heliports along the coast including one at Sea World and another at Marina Mirage. You will usually need to check in 10 minutes or so before departure for check-in and a short safety briefing.
Of course, this is the perfect way to get some stunning photographs or video footage of your visit. Some companies have cameras built into their helicopters, and can film your flight for you and edit it onto a DVD.
A highly recommended activity that is popular with all ages!
