Byron Bay’s Jesse Morris Band bring their blend of Blues, Roots & Reggae to the Gold Coast this weekend with gigs at NightQuarter, Boardriders Coolangatta and Broadbeach Art and Craft Markets (details at bottom of page). We recently got the chance to chat to Jesse and TK Bass Dread about their latest release and what else the band have planned…
Guys, thanks for taking the time to talk to us – what can you tell us about the EP you just released?
Jesse: Our new release is titled the ‘Freedom’ EP. It features the title track ‘Freedom Has No Measure’ co-written with a volunteer teacher and founder of a small island school off the Cambodian coast line. The song is about showering the world with love, not money & bombs. All proceeds from this track and a portion of our tour CD sales go back to the school. I spent some time there and it changed my life.
TK Bass Dread: The EP tells a story of travel, awakening, community and the unconditional love that connects us all.
For anyone who hasn’t seen the band, can you tell us a bit about what to expect from a live show?
Jesse: Our shows are about positive vibrations. Making people feel good. And sharing messages of peace, equality and freedom!
TK Bass Dread: Dynamic, powerful, conscious grooves and messages (and a very handsome bassist)!
What’s on the cards for the the Jesse Morris Band in the near future?
Jesse: We will be touring most of the year with 22 shows down the east coast of Australia and a winter run of 20 shows across New Zealand, Spring we will be touring WA and then we will be back on the east coast for a new vinyl release spring/summer… looking forward to the summer festival season!
TK Bass Dread: international tours with a variety of line ups and collaborations with amazing artists and musicians who empower each other to higher levels of expression.
Who else is involved in your tour and on your new release?
Jesse: Massive thanks and respect to our brothers, sisters & co-conspirators on this EP & epic tour including NZ’s Julian Temple who will be joining us for most of the east coast and NZ dates, Eric Cohelo, Rosie Mischief, Rob DeMasi, Hutchy, Kakhand, Jan Muths, Hugh Jones, Aya, Stu Currie, Da… We work with so many local legends. A northern rivers troubadour collective of misfits and freedom fighters.
TK Bass Dread: we are part of a larger family and tribe of outer-national reggae musicians in Byron Bay called 4’20 sound. Many great acts are coming out of this fresh scene. Skankstarz, Rosie Mischief Band, Air Structure, Dio…
