While the Rattlesnake Motel opened it’s doors for the first time in April 2014, it has quite a history as the venue was originally home to the popular Never Land Bar.
Never Land closed down at the end of 2013 after five years of success, in which time it established itself as one of the best nightlife venues on all of the Gold Coast. It wasn’t too big, with a capacity of around 300, but that added the bar’s atmosphere.
Over the years acts as diverse as The Presets, Peaches and Grinspoon played there, and it’s safe to say that it’s closure was a loss to the local scene. But what actually happened was the owners wanted to take a break before making considerable changes and improvements to the building.
So in a way The Rattlesnake Motel is a new, improved Never Land: redesigned and slightly stripped back but still with an emphasis on quality music and an amazing atmosphere. It received an overwhelmingly positive reaction from locals when the opening was announced on Facebook.
At the weekend there are DJs and sometimes live acts, so if you are looking for a great night out you are not going to be disappointed. The Rattlesnake Motel is located at 23 McLean Street in Coolangatta and is open on Friday, Saturday and (occasionally) Sunday. Telephone (07) 5536 6666.
