Another Gold Coast Irish bar, Waxy’s Irish Pub is a two-level pub and restaurant that is popular with visitors and locals.
All the usual drinks including local and international beers, Irish ales (naturally), a fair wine list, all the usual spirits and a selection of cocktails.
There are drink specials on sometimes too, as well as a happy hour. Drink prices otherwise are fairly standard for Surfers: not cheap, but not expensive either.
It’s become quite well known for it’s $2 Sunday Steaks (sides like fries and salad are extra) – one of the best deals in town.
The regular menu is reasonably priced for Surfers and features the usual pub favourites, plus pizza and Irish dishes like lamb shanks, Guinness Pie and Irish Curry. Vegetarians will be limited to pizza, salad, side dishes and some of the starters.
Waxy’s has live music seven days a week, and even a “nightclub” event on Friday and Saturday nights upstairs at “The Harp”. Music is pretty much what you might expect at such a venue.
Sorting events like the NRL, AFL Rugby Union and UFC are usually showing on the big screen.
There is a gaming room full of pokies and neon lights too, if that is something you are looking for.
Waxy’s is a fairly typical Aussie Irish bar: busy and unpretentious with live music and the occasional DJ. Try to visit on a Sunday for the Steak Special if you’re not sure and you can’t really go wrong.
Waxy’s Irish Pub is located at 3206 Surfers Paradise Boulevard in Surfers Paradise. Telephone (07) 5526 7655
